Joy Ridderhof Missions Story
Could God use a worried little girl to spread the joy of Jesus around the world? Could God use severe illness as a catalyst to launch a ministry that would impact millions? This missionary story will show children how God accomplished these things and many more as he used Joy Ridderhof to help tell the story of Jesus in over 6,500 languages all around the world. The ministry she began, Global Recordings Network, is still working to share the good news of Jesus in some of the most remote places on earth. Using the latest recording and audio technology, this global organization is providing access to God’s Word for millions of people by making audio recordings of the gospel message in languages who have little to no Bible translations or local churches of their own.
This 6-part lesson includes activities and ideas to help the children know they can also serve God with joy as they tell the story of Jesus to others. Printable story visuals, PPT slides, historical photos, discussion questions, and coloring pages for each part of the story are included with this free digital download to help you share this incredible missionary story with kids in your family or church.

Big Idea: I can serve God with joy!
Key Verse: Psalm 16:11 – “In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Story Excerpt: Joy Ridderhof thanked God for what he was doing around the world. Stories kept coming in of people coming to know Jesus because they listened to a Gospel Recordings record. One man in Mexico believed in Jesus after hearing a record and shared the story of Jesus with 50 other people who also trusted Jesus as their Savior from sin! People in hard to reach areas like jungles, deserts, mountains, valleys, rainforests, and islands were hearing and even memorizing the story. A woman in South America told Joy, “I can’t believe in the Lord because I can’t read.” Joy gave her a record and said, “Faith comes by hearing! Listen to this record.” The woman heard the good news on the record, and believed in Jesus! God was doing amazing things as Joy and her team trusted and served him joyfully. Jesus was changing people’s hearts and lives!
With so many people believing in Jesus, Joy and her staff wanted to help them grow in their faith. Most of them didn’t have Bibles to read and many of them couldn’t read at all. So the Gospel Recordings team began recording more parts of the Bible in many languages. Eventually they put together a series of Bible stories in many languages and even had artists draw pictures of the stories so people could listen to the stories while looking at the pictures. Today these recordings and pictures are freely available on their website so that people all around the world can use the internet to find and use these resources in their homes, churches, and communities.
