LEGO Lesson
Lego bricks are one of the most popular toys in the world! You can use LEGO bricks or another building block to help kids learn how they can be part of God’s family! Ephesians 2 tells us that God is building his family piece by piece, person by person. He saves us from our sin and makes us into something new so we can love and serve him together as his Church. In this lesson, children will enjoy playing with blocks to build various items related to the gospel message as you teach. They can even design their own “Block Buddy” and use it for a special activity to help them learn about God’s family, the church. Here’s a preview of this LEGO Bible lesson…
Say: We’re going to use building bricks to learn about the greatest builder of all and how he’s been building something special for a long time. When it’s your turn to build, do your best and we’ll cheer you on. When it’s not time to build, please listen carefully and keep your hands off the bricks so everyone can focus.
Do: Have children use building bricks to build a simple model of something God made like an animal, plant, mountain, rock, dinosaur, or bird.
Say: God is the greatest builder ever! The Bible says, (read Genesis 1:1). God built the Earth and the entire universe just by speaking! God built a perfect Garden where the very first people lived with him. Everything was perfect and good! The people were close to God and talked with him every day. God designed them to have a friendship with him. He loved them with all his heart and wanted the best for them. But instead of trusting and loving God, they chose to break away from God by breaking his rules. When this happened, God’s perfect creation was broken. Sin came into God’s perfect world, and people could no longer be close in friendship with God. Sin is breaking God’s rules by things like disobeying, lying, hating, and hurting others. People who sin cannot live close to God because he is holy (perfect and separate from sin). So they were kicked out of the Garden.
Do: Have children build a tree to represent the garden and then break it apart.
Say: The Garden had been built as a home for them, and now they had to leave it. Even though people had sinned against him, God wasn’t done with them. People couldn’t build their own way back to God, but he loved them so much that he planned to make a way to save them and build them into a family even though they didn’t deserve it. (Read Ephesians 2:8-10.) He planned to do this by sending Jesus, but first he had to get people ready for Jesus to arrive. God chose a family called the Israelites to be his special people. They were going to show his love and plan to the world! But their sin still separated them from God, so God told them how to build a special place to meet with him.
Do: Show an illustration of the Tabernacle and have children build a rectangular box from the bricks and make it as large as they can in one minute. Shout the Big Idea, “God is building his family!” together.
