Grandma’s Gift!
Bible Lesson
Timothy received a gift from his grandma that changed his life forever. The legacy of faith passed down to him by his mother and grandmother through God’s Word prepared his heart to follow Jesus and share his good news with many others too. In this lesson, children will encounter the gospel as they pretend to join Grandma Lois as she uses the scrolls of God’s Word to teach young Timothy. They will be invited to believe the gospel for themselves and to treasure God’s Word as a timeless gift that points to Jesus.

Here’s a sneak peek inside the lesson….
Say: The Bible tells us about a grandma who gave her grandson a wonderful gift. She lived at the time when Jesus died on the cross. She helped to raise her grandson, Timothy. What kinds of things do you think she did to help care for Timothy? She probably helped cook for him, clean him up, wash his clothes, put him to bed, and many other things. Let’s pretend to do these things while we learn what the Bible says about her.
Do: Read 2 Timothy 1:2-5 and explain that this was written to Timothy after he had grown up. Have children pretend to be a grandparent caring for a small child (cooking, hugging, playing, washing, etc.) as you discuss these questions.
- What were the names of Timothy’s mom and grandma?
- What does the Bible say dwelt (lived) in her?
- What is faith? (Trusting what God says and does. Believing in Jesus as Savior.)
Say: Timothy’s grandma was named Lois. Do you know your grandma’s name? Or can you think of the name of another person who cares about you, like maybe your grandpa, an aunt, a teacher, or someone at church? Close your eyes and think about someone who cares about you. What comes to mind when you think about them? What’s something special about them? There are many things that make our grandparents and other friends special. Something that made Grandma Lois special was her faith in Jesus. Faith in Jesus is trusting that Jesus really is God’s Son who died and came alive again to save people from sin. Lois was a grandma who was known for believing in Jesus with all her heart! That’s something pretty special to be known for. And she wasn’t just known for believing in Jesus; she used God’s Word to share the good news about Jesus with others.
